Internet Explorer Issue Solved at Adgitize

Posted by kexbrown on April 3, 2009

If you are using IE7 or Internet Explorer to click on ads within the Adgitize Ad Network, I think you will find the experience more fun.

Huge Problem Resolved

I didn’t realize there was a problem until last week and I received an email from Girly Anti-Geek. She was struggling with this whole get points for clicking advertiser’s ads within Adgitize. I didn’t know what the problem was, it worked for me.

Well it turns out that The Girly Anti-Geek was using IE7. I was using FireFox. When I dug into the issue a little closer she was absolutely correct. It didn’t work the way it was supposed to in IE7. Now the good news is she wasn’t losing points. It was just a painful experience for her to click on the ads.

When a member clicks on an ad the green banner at the bottom changes to blue. After the member clicks on 5 ads then it changes to read, “Adgitize 5″. As the member progresses through the different advertisers, the label keeps changing and the number continues to progress until we run out of advertisers or reach 100 points.

Well, you all know we use iFrames. Apparently, IE7 has a system that allows iFrames to talk to the parent page nicely. We needed to change our code so IE7 allowed the iFrames to communicate their status better.

What Do You Have to Do?

Now it works. What do you have to do? It is best if you log out of Adgitize and log back in. Only if you use Internet Explorer. (If you use any of the other browsers, everything is okay.) Once you log back in everything should begin to display correctly. If you have any problems just let us know and we will try to help you.

If you choose not to log out at this time, that is okay. We automatically log you out in a couple of days and when you log back in everything will be fine.

For those people that were using Internet Explorer, God Bless you for putting up with the way this functioned for you. Wow, you are special people. I hope you like the new system better. Let me know if you see problems. Special thanks to Girly Anti-Geek for bringing this issue to my attention and being patient with me while I tried to figure out what the problem was.

Thanks for fixing this. I have really found this to be helpful.

On a side note, I noticed that the “adgitize spot complete” is filling up all my ad space on my blog … is this a new ad?

The “Adgitize Spot Complete” tells you that you are getting close to or you are finished visiting advertisers for the day. Once all the spots are showing the “Spot Complete” then you can stop visiting advertisers, because you are “done.”

The exception to this is you might find a 468px by 60px ad on a web site or two that hasn’t been clicked.

Your visitors to your site will not see the “Adgitize Spot Complete” message. If you log out of Adgitize you won’t see the message either. It is just an indicator for you when you have visited a certain number of blogs.

OH! That is very cool. Thanks for explaining to me how that works.

So what happens when it says Adgitize 100 but there are no Spot Complete filling in the ads. This happened to me last night.

Also along with finding the 468X60 ads the page peel ones are necessary to find to end as well. Luckily they are easy to find, on Kens gardening page and the Adgitize page as well as a couple of other ones. It’s almost like a little quest which can be somewhat amusing in the right frame of mind.

@Jen – if you see Adgitize 100 but no Spot completes, that means you are an advertiser and you have clicked 50 ads for the day. You have met your requirement for clicks.

Now that we are at 56 advertisers in the system and growing fast you have more 125X125 ads available and you don’t have to worry as much about other ad types, but we hope you do continue looking for them.

Both of the Page Peel Ads have corresponding 125 X 125 ads and 468 X 60 ads in the system. You can click on any of those ads and meet your requirement for that advertiser.

I know it seems a little like magic most days when you are visiting advertisers’ ads, but there really is logic sitting behind all the magic.
