Member Click Points and FireFox

Posted by kexbrown on July 7, 2009

A few members are still having problems with their clicks counting when using FireFox. We are looking into the issue. The fact that everyone using FireFox are not having problems makes the issue harder to debug. I use FireFox all the time and I am not experiencing issues.

Many members with the problem are using FireFox 3.5. There are known issues with this version and cookies. I believe this is where the problem is. A couple of people have expressed that they are okay clicking on Monday, but then on Tuesday they can’t click again. This could be because your system is dropping your cookies per the rules this new version of FireFox employs.

Here are some links that may prove useful for you. I suggest you look very closely at the cookies.sqlite file. Some suggest you rename this file (cookies1.sqlite) and then this file will be created anew.

Make sure your cookies for Adgitize are not blocked under Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Cookies and check the Exceptions. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Cookies or take a look at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Websites_report_cookies_are_disabled.

I don’t expect this to be a magic bullet. I am offering suggestions and we are still researching the issue on this side. If you are having a problem and you are running FireFox 3.5 it would be interesting to see what Plugins or addons you are running as that might help us determine the cause of the problem.

It seems to be off-and-on for me. This morning it was working, and then partway through my clicks it stopped for no reason. Then I logged out, and logged back in again, and now it’s working again. I haven’t upgraded to FF 3.5 yet though, I’m still on 3.0.11.

That may be just a normal expiration of your cookies. If it happens daily then it is a problem. But, the cookies are naturally set to expire about once every 5 days.

Thanks for share this post. I have not had a problem as your describing above yet. But there is bothering me when I am doing some clickings on adgitize advertiser banners. The bothering problem is why do I click those banners every time, the result of clicking does not appear at the same time at below of the advertiser banner? I think it necessary for publisher to know how many clicked have they already clicked the banners at the same time? And how many clicked do they need to complete their 100 clicked/day quota? I don’t try to compare the adgitize program with the social network base on clicked activity. Once again, I think it’s important to know the result of clicked publisher at the real time accounted without waiting for few moment. And the last question, how does the publisher clicking know that their clicking account as the valid clicking? Is there any condition to recognize a valid clicking?

@Arya – There is no indicator that specifically tells you that this is a valid click. We make the assumption that you have read the FAQ and TOS and have familiarized yourself with the Adgitize Click Rules.

But, even if you haven’t you can check your reports after each click to determine if the click was a valid click.

Your suggestion to give immediate feedback after each click is a wonderful suggestion. We have been talking about this internally the last couple of days as we try to help members determine if they are having problems early in the process.

We will take your suggestion and see if we can come up with adequate visual indicators.

So it’s not a problem with the system? I’m using Chrome and my clicks are not being counted :(

@Vera – I just cranked up Chrome this morning and it worked fine. I changed the cookie settings and it worked. I changed the SSL setting and it worked.

Does Chrome have any add-ons or plug-ins that I need to add and test?

Here is an article about profile folders for the different browsers.

    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox

This article tells you where to find the cookies.sqllite file so you can rename it. Then FireFox will create a new file for you.

  • kexbrown said,

@Vera – there is also a recommendation for Chrome to clear all temp internet files and cookies.

I switched to using Firefox yesterday because IE would not let me login, requested new password, tried typing it, cut’n'paste – no dice. Went into FF and it worked first time.

I prefer using FF, but a few months ago, the version I was using then had the same login problems IE now has.

I’m using FF version 3.0.11 and my clicks were recorded.

All very aggravating and not a good start for my return to Adgitize

@Jenny – Welcome back. I am glad that FF worked for you.

    This may help some members.

I find that leaving my computer on 24/7 means that cookies etc accumulate. A reboot usually cleans things out.

Another useful program for cleanup is the aptly named “Crapcleaner” a free download that I now run daily after surfing.

    Here’s their homepage: http://www.ccleaner.com/

A member wrote to tell me her experience.

“I’ve also been having some troubles with the click count a few days back as well, but after a couple of clearing cookies and adding adgitize to the exceptions on the options I was able to click with count. I also returned to the default browser theme for Mozilla. I used the “noia 2.0 eXtreme” theme which does not count the clicks even after clearing cookies etc. Just so you know.”

    Hi there,

Before Adgitize server upgrade, I had to login twice. I login the first time and Adgitize will show me the login page again when I click on any of the links (e.g. Reports, Earnings and etc.)

After the server upgrade, I only have to login once. However, the clicks were not counted. Hence, what I do now is login, logout and login back again. It works a treat for me in Portable Firefox 3.0.9.

At home, I use Firefox 3.5 Full Version and I have not experiencing any problem with that.
