Member Earnings Updated for Missing Days
Posted by kexbrown on February 3, 2010
We have updated the member earnings report to reflect days that were missed because of server problems. We had two choices. We could just not award earnings for the days that ads weren’t being shown. Or, we could pick your highest earnings day from January 2nd to January 29th and give you the earnings from that day for the missing day.
We chose the latter. So, when you look at your report for January 23rd, 24th and 25th you will see earnings have been added for those missing days. Since you didn’t really score points for those days we have not updated the points report and for points earned for those days we have left them at zero.
The only critical value is the amount earned. I think in every case members have earned more than they potentially could have if everyone had participated for those days.
We will finish up the advertisers ad extensions on Thursday. Our plan is to extend all ads in process when the server failed.
It appears upon final analysis that the problem was caused by an update to AVG 9.0 an anti-virus product. The latest update had functionality that disrupted the proper operation of a web server.

thanks for the update, Ken.
good to know that you’ve found the culprit. this is the most important step in solving an issues like this.

Ouch! AVG has usually been good. That’s like the Toyota recall.
You are very kind and generous to treat us all so well, since I’m sure you didn’t make any money during that time. ha! Thanks so much!

Thanks for the update Ken. We were using AVG at work until this past summer when service started to decline.

@Dogs Deserve Freedom – I ran it locally and on my Mother-in-law’s computer up until about 2 months ago. Then when we upgraded to AVG 9.0 all kinds of bad things began happening.
For the web server the company that manages the server placed AVG on the box not me. It has been stable up until 2 weeks ago. The interesting thing to me is that there was never any error messages to tell us what was failing.
We looked at the database, we changed code, we removed code (AdgiScore) that we thought might be causing a problem and we looked at server memory. I am just glad it is cleared up and I really appreciate everyone being patient with us while we “slowly” solved the problem.
